Cherry Blossom Socks

I love spring. It's beautiful outside, I finally come out from my warm blanket fort.

And the cherry blossoms are out!

I volunteer for the Brooklyn Museum frequently. It's located directly next door to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, where they hold the Sakura Matsuri festival every year. It's gorgeous and I missed it because I was working that weekend.

BUT! That doesn't stop me from being inspired as all get out. So I ran over to Argyle Yarns in Brooklyn, and picked up some Cascade Heritage sock yarn, in 'Iris' and 'Snow.' I have to say it was an absolutely joy to knit with, and the colors were exactly what I was thinking for these socks.

The pattern is a cross between the Yarn Harlot's sock recipe, some KnitPurlHunter YouTube videos, and my own weird thoughts. These are my second pair of socks, so they're not the best. But they come with a great story at the end.

The sock went with me to the Botanical Garden to meet it's namesake. This is where I finished the first of the pair. Relaxed on a bench, in the cool air.

And then I cast on the second sock, and finished it today, a week later.

This is where the sock betrayed me. I did my grafting properly, and got so excited to finish this pair. It was exactly how I had thought of them. They feel beautiful. YAY!!

And then I pulled them over my foot....

And the toe unraveled about five rows and I can't repeat the sound that came from my mouth.

I was so mad. These socks were perfect! PERFECT! They betrayed me.

After having a small fit and watching some more CSI on Hulu, I sucked it up, put on my big girl pants and sewed up the toe.

So cherry blossom socks, you are beautiful. But you nearly gave me a heart attack.
